FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How
many weeks must be served?
Programs are 2 or 3 week commitments.
Do the Teachers stay at Disney?
No. Teachers are not required to stay on Disney property 24
hours, and their room and meals are not provided.
May a Teacher serve as a Guide and reside at Disney?
Yes. It is possible for an energetic adult to serve in the
classroom as well as throughout the Disney property, working
as both a Teacher and a Guide. It would not be an easy job.
Teacher/Guides are only free in the evening, once the Teacher/Guides
have returned Students returned to the hotel rooms for the
night. During hours of responsibility, Teacher/Guides must
be completely focused on the International students.
A Teacher/Guide will instruct in the classroom for 32 hours
during Weeks 1 and 2. During remaining hours of responsibility,
Teachers serving as Guides will accompany groups of 15 - 20
Students every place they go around the Disney property. During
YES Programs, the Teacher/Guides usually enjoy free time. A
Chaperone (adult who accompanies students from their home country)
is responsible for Students once the Teacher/Guides return
the Students to their hotel rooms each evening. Teacher/Guides
would receive all Teacher and Guide benefits, including room
(All-Star Resort room shared with 4 Guides in a room) meals,
and Theme Park fees, and, without exception, and must reside
on the Disney Property 24/7.
Where will the Teacher/Guides reside?
4 Teacher/Guides or Guides share a room in the All-Star Resort.
There are 2 full size beds per room, so beds will be shared.
Teacher/Guides and Guides must have an “other centered” heart
and be able and willing to devote 100% attention to the International
visitors.
Where are the English Language classrooms?
During Weeks 1 and 2, classroom instruction by Teachers takes
place in rooms at Disney’s All-Star Resort. During a
Week 3 program, Guides and Teacher/Guides conduct Conversation
activities as they accompany groups of 15 - 20 students on
a schedule around the Disney Property or off site locations.
Will the weeks of service be selected or assigned?
Staff definitely will be asked to indicate dates of availability
and will be assigned according to program needs during indicated
available dates.
How is transportation provided within the parks?
Teachers may arrive by private car and will park at Disney
All Star resort free parking. Teachers and Guides who enter
the parks with students use Disney transport. On some occasions,
due to timing or the hour of day, there will be chartered buses
to pick up Guides and Students.
Along with the 15 children per Teacher, is there an interpreter
to accompany each class?
Adult Chaperones from their countries accompany the children
at approximately a 1 to 15 ratio. Chaperones are responsible
for the international Students. Teachers will not have an interpreter
in English class; however, in case of emergency, the Chaperone
will be called in to assist.
How will we communicate with Students?
All of the International Students study English in their countries.
They will range in ability from beginning through advanced
levels. Students are motivated to practice what they have been
studying. Placement testing is conducted on Day 1, and classes
are grouped according to both age and English level.
Is there Teacher training, so the experience is well organized
and expectations are clear?
There will be orientation for Teachers, so they can expect
some training and communication of the organization a day or
two before a program begins. Teachers will be expected to prepare
in advance of the program start. The custom written curriculum
is excellent, and Disney provides all textbooks, teacher's
instruction manual, and materials in an organized package.
There is little allowance for improvisation, ensuring that
from class to class the program will be uniform in quality.
Are English Days Teacher and Guide staff expected to be educators
or babysitters?
English Days is all about learning! Students attend English
Days at Walt Disney World to practice and improve English Language
listening and speaking skills. Parents expect that students
will achieve an overall improvement in vocabulary, grammar
usage, and confidence in conversation skills. Custom English
as a Second Language Curriculum is coordinated with all Disney
activities, making every moment a natural learning experience.
Both Teachers and Teachers have opportunities to share warm
relationships with students, enabling and facilitating learning.
Instruction is organized and academically recognized for excellence
in English Language learning for non-native speakers.
